Chidarambara Kummi:
Gopalakrishna Bharathi composed ‘Chidambara Kummi’, thereby fulfilling the wish of a few women. The set of songs have been set in a way where one could various shrines in the temple and praise each of the deities in the shrines, starting from Lord Vinayaka. saandhu pottuth thaLathaLenna – nalla sandhana vaadai gumugumenna kUndhalazaguk kaariyellaam kaalaik kuviththuk kummiyadiyungkadi” Kummi is a folk dance performed by the rural women. The above verse is an example of how the composition beautifully suits this purpose. He attaches his name to the composition in the following verse. thiththI enRu eesa nadanam puriya mey thEvargaL pU mazaithaan soriya maththaLam kottiya gOpaalakrishNanai vaazththik kummi adiyungkadi” Chidambaram is not just a Saivaite temple. Govindaraja perumal, being one of the prime deities of worship, brings in the Vaishnavite nexus to Chidambaram. Bharathi mentions this in the following verse. Cidambaram enRu sollaamalE ithai chiththirak kUdam enRu solli nitham koNdaadum aiyangaarkaL vandhu ninRirukkiRaar paarungkaLadi” He conveys the trance he experienced during meditation at the chith sabhai through simple words in the following verse. agaaya lingkaththaik kaNdEnadi ingkE aarum aRiyaamal ninREnadi Ekaanthamaaga irunthEnadi mana thEkkam tholaindhadhu paarungkadi” The following verse describes the immense pleasure experienced by Bharathi in the yoga marga. vidhiyin ezuththai kiziththaaccu munnE vidda kuRai vandhu thottaaccu mathi amirthamum uNdaaccuthenRu vaazththik kummi adiyungkadi” Paarththu kadan kodungkaL Once in Mayavaram, Bharathi visited a house upon its resident’s request. After taking bath he was performing japa. His japa was repeatedly hindered by a noisy conversation between the house owner and another person. After a while, the house owner came to Bharathi. Bharathi enquired him about the heated argument. The house owner replied, “I had lent him money a few years back and whenever I ask him to return the money he gets away with some lame excuses. He was passing by this street and I was asking him about the money. He started shouting without any reasons.” Bharathi replied, “It is better to give away the money for good as dharma. If one is keen on lending money, he has to first ensure that the person he is lending to will return the money for sure.” His advice blossomed into a kirthana in raga kApi.
